March 14th, 2009BiologyChildren come from fusion of (or make simple meet up with) mama’s ovum and dad’s sperm known as zygote. So, how does ovum and sperm meet in the first place?
Race of the Sperms
Through sexual intercourse, sperms in dad’s reprodcutive organ will flow into mama’s reproductive organ (into the Ovari, which release a ovum). There will 200 – 300 million sperms rushing to the ovum, only one race winner will meet up with ovum to form zygote.

Sperms Rushing Towards Ovum
Only one sperm can go into ovum to complete the fusion.
There can only one winner
To become a embryo, zygote divide into two, then two become four, and it keeps repeatedly divide, and being push to the uterus at the same time.
Zygote Starts To Dividing
Until the eighth day, the dividing zygote implants itself on the wall of the uterus and make a home there.
Zygote sticks itself onto uterus wall
Next, zygote become an embryo. Withins 3 weeks, embryo can grow up to 2mm long
Zygote Turns Into Embryo
Four weeks later, embryo becomes 1 cm long, and bones and brain is developed.
Next, embryo starts to grow bones and brain
Eight weeks later, embryo grows up to 4cm long, it starts to grow limbs and organs….becoming a feotus.
Embryo grows limbs and organs
3 months later, feotus starts to grow hair.
Hair starts to grow on foetus
Come the fourth month, we will know is it a boy or a girl?
Time to know...Boy or Girl?
Starting from the fourth month, mama will feel the moving feotus in her stomach
Mama can feel her baby moving
