Phew… It really nice to be back after all the work in school.

Hi, Kids. Do you like magic ?

Last Saturday my school organized a fair for the whole school.

So, I found out this very interesting experiments for you guys. But, during the event this magician keep saying is magic time. Well, I say……”It Cool Science Experiments For Kids Time…!!!”

Let’s start the experiments will the following materials:-
    a) a stripe of manila card size: (1.5cm x 30cm) (just ask dad to get it from his office ;))
    b)a coin
    c)a cellophane tape and
    d)a glass

    Steps:-
First, use the cellophane tape to stick the two end of the manila card. Becareful, don’t use too much force as we want a round shape paper ring.

Then, put the paper on the mouth of the glass.

Lastly, put the coin on the top of the paper ring.

Now, is ‘SHOW TIME’… Use tip of your finger quicky pull away the paper ring.

    What happen? Why?

Guys, haven’t touch up the pictures yet. Coming Soon….

    Explanations
    According to Newton First Law,

An object tends to stay at rest and a moving object tends to continue moving with same speed and in same direction unless being acted by an external force

The coin is under the force of gravity, and tends to be pull downward. When the paper ring was being pull away at a fast pace, the coins will tends to fall down into the glass rather than pull away by the ring.

Kids, do you know that the skin is the biggest organ in our body? And, do you also know that our skin cells can live for three weeks.

Today, we gonna have some fun with our skin.

    The materials required are:-

    1. Our body ;)
    2. Paper clips, you need at least two.
    Hi Kids...

    Hi Kids...

    Steps:-

1.Shape you paper clip like this (One Paper Clip)
By now you should know what do I meant by One Paper Clip...

By now you should know what do I meant by One Paper Clip...

and like this (Two Paper Clip)
    Is just two pointed metal

    Is just two pointed metal

    2. Ask a friend to close his eyes. Prick the palm of his hand with one paper clip. Prick his palm again, this time with two paper clips. Record the results (whether the stimulus was felt or not) in table below
    3. Repeat step 2 to test the skin in different partsof the body such as fingertips, arms, neck and knee.

You should get the results something like this:-
(√) shows that the skin can detect the stimulus

    (X) shows that the skin cannot detect the stimulus

Parts of the body Prick with one paper clip Prick with two paper clip
    Palm X
    Fingertip
    Neck
    Knee X X X
    Arm X X X

    Explanations:-
After this experiments, you will find out that different part of out body have different sensitivity and the skin around the neck and the fingertips is more sensitive than the skin on the palm, knee and arms. This is because sensitivity of our skin depands on:-
    a) the thickness of our skin
    b) the number of sensory receptors (will be wirtting a more simple version on this soon…for please refer to Wikipedia for now)

Yo Kidz, it has been some time i have not written any cool experiments.

    Wanna know why?

I drank too much root beer. But, that gives me an idea to create a cool experiments.

Without talking too much, lets get to the materials required:-
    1. A botol of Food colouring (we just need a few drops, red color will do just fine)
    2. A botol of Vinegar
    3. Some baking soda
    4. Dish cleaner or dish detergent, what ever u wanna call it
    5. Water off course ;P
    6. A cup for our experiment
    7. U might need a spoon…

Hey mom... I need a cup please

    Hey...mom I need a cup please

A step by step guide for our experiments:-
    1. Ok, I know A & W use glass cup for their root beers. But, due to safety reason I used a plastic cup instead. Remember don’t even drink the root beer in our experiments. Pour water into the cup. U might want to leave some room for your root beer foam.
    Left Some Space For Foam

    Left Some Space For Foam

2 Put a few drops of the dish detergent liquid
Add a few drops of dish detergent liquid

Add a few drops of dish detergent liquid

    3. Since we are making our own root beer. We should add a few drops of food colouring to the water.
Our Root Beer Is Almost Done!

Our Root Beer Is Almost Done!

    4. Put 2 table spoon of baking soda into the solution a.k.a our root beer.
    One...Two...

    One...Two...

    5. Open up your botol of vinegar and ready for action. Now, pour in the vinegar and our root beer is done. Watch out, the foam might over flow. If nothing happen don’t cry, no worry. We can fix it. Just use the spoon to stir the baking soda.
    The moment of truth...

    The moment of truth...

    6. Root beer is served ;P
    Root Beer Is Served ;P

    Root Beer Is Served ;P

    Opps...

    Opps...

    Explanations:-

The foam flowing up the cup was due to the reaction between baking soda (a base) and the vineger (an acid). Once a base and an acid react, it will release carbon dioxide. The reaction of releasing carbon dioxide pushes the foam upwards thus making our root beer foam. The role of dish washer was to create the foam without the dish washer we won’t the foam for our root beer. If we just mix the baking soda (base) and vineger (acid), we will witness something like when we pour a can of Coke into a cup with some sizzzzzzzzz sound.

You must be wondering, how can soild matter fight with liquid matter?

Well, in this cool science experiment we ain’t fighting solid and liquid. But, we are going to turn a solid into liquid. Liquid backs to solid. Sounds like magic…? Looks like magic…But it is not magic…It is Cool Science Experiments For Kids!!!

Let’s get started, you guys just can’t wait anymore.

First, get the following material ready:-
    1. A packet of corn starch
    2. Some bowls or container
    2. A few Cups
    4. Water
    5. Spoon
    6. A pair of scissors
    7. You…(to enjoy all the fun) ;)

    Opps...forget the scissors

    Opps...forget the scissors

    Instructions:-
1.Cut open your cornstarch. Pour the cornstarch into a cup. Fill the cup full.

    Fill the cup with cornstarch

    Fill the cup with cornstarch

    2. Put all the cornstarch into a bowl or container. Use the spoon to stir the cornstarch. How does it feels ?

Pour the cup of cornstarch into a bowl

Pour the cup of cornstarch into a bowl

    3. Put in half cup of water slowly into the blow. Do not pour the water all at once. Slowly. You actually don’t need much water.

    You don't need much water

    You don't need much water

    4. Stir the mixture. How do you feel ?
    5. Keep stirring until you get a pancake like batter. Now, poke it with your finger. Does it feel like building sand castle ?
    6. Now, lets get dirty!!! Hold it in your hand. Squeez it, shape it, move it. How does it feels like?
    7. Keep playing with your ‘new pet’ on your palm. Turn over your palm or even give me a five. Let’s see what will happen.

    Cool...It just stay right there

    Cool...It just stay right there

    Yeah...Give me a five!!!

    Yeah...Give me a five!!!

    8. Hold your pet steady on your palm. No touching please!!! See what happen?

    It looks like liquid

    Cool Down...Don't touch it...

    Explanations:-
In school, we learn about three states of matter:- solid, liquid and gas. Today, we gonna learn a new thing called suspension. The mixture of water and cornstarch created a suspension. It can behave a like a solid when you poke it, squeez it, shape it, moving it around. That is why the moment you start to stir with water, you need extra energy to stir it. Reason being a suspension will in ‘defensive mode’ when you are touching it, which means the molecules or particles line up to behave like a solid. When you left the suspension alone, its molecules or particles relax, thus it looks like liquid. The moment you touch it, it will act like a solid.

Hey kids, you like reading newspaper? After reading it what do you do with it?

Well this time, I have a cool experiment to turn old newspaper into recycle paper.

We can use the recycle paper for scrap book, greeting cards, drawing book…etc…

So let get starting with the material.

    Material Require:

1.Get your yourself a eletrcic egg beater

    2.A big pail
3.One/ A few mosquito net or a mosquito screen, you just need to a small piece (Roughly an A4 size paper). Better still if  someone can give it to you ;)
4.Some water (Hot water will be nice but becareful with it, ask adults to help out)
    5.Scissors
    6.A hot day
    7.You
    8. Well off course, old newspaper…!!!

    Instructions:-

1.Tear the old newspaper into small pieces. After you tear the small pieces, you still can use scissors to reduce the size of the teared pieces. Please make sure all the pieces are collected in the pail else it will be very messy. Depending on how many recycle papers you want, my experience is that 3 to 4 pages of newspaper is enough to produce 5 to 6 recycle paper. So, if you wanna make a book keep tearing…!!!

Collect The Pieces of Paper in a Pail

Collect pieces of paper into a pail

You can use scissors to cut the paper into smaller pieces

Use scissors to cut the paper into smaller pieces

2.Pour water into the small piece that you have just teared. Just pour enough water to cover all the small pieces. Make sure all the small piece are soak in the water. The process is to soften the newspapers. and remove colors, inks from the paper. Soak the papers for 30 minutes. At this point, can add some food colouring to make it colourful.

    Pour water into the pail

    Pour water into the pail

3.If you have time you can experiment this. Instead of soaking the papers for 30 minutes, you can soak the papers for a week. But, be warn! It can be very stinky!!! By the time, the paper will look mushy. So, we will use a electric egg beater to turn our soaked papers into mushy papers.

Beat the papers until mushy, yeah beat them up!!!

Beat the papers until mushy, yeah beat them up!!!

4.Once your papers look mushy. Go grab you screen.
    Grab your screen

    Grab your screen

5.Put the screen into the mushy papers. Time to get dirty!!!
6.Pull the screen out of the mushy paper. Make sure the whole screen is covered with mushy papers. Once you take your screen out of the mushy paper. Do not touch the mushy paper on the screen. I repeat DO NOT TOUCH YOU MUSHY PAPER!!! Cause if you touch it, there will be a hole on your recycle paper.
Make sure the whole screen is covered up

7.Now, let the screen with mushy paper dry under the hot sun. It should just take a while. Have some cookies or watch some cartoons.
Let it dry under the hot sun

    8. Go collect your recycle paper.
    9. Slowly peal of your recycle paper.
Slowly peal off the recycle paper from the screen

    10. Do what ever you like with your ‘reward’. Be cool…!!! ;)
    Hmm...what should I do?
